TAIPEI — Starting July 1, Taichung’s National Museum of Natural Science will raise its admission fees, marking the first price increase since the museum opened in 1986.
According to a press release issued Monday, the price of full admission tickets will rise from NT$100 (about US$3) to NT$120. The “Dinosaur Card” membership fee will increase from NT$300 to NT$360. Student tickets for those aged 12 and above, along with general group tickets for groups of 20 or more, will go up from NT$70 to NT$90.
Prices for group student tickets, children aged 6 to 11, and seniors visiting during holidays will also increase, from NT$50 to NT$60.
Discounts will stay the same for children under 6, seniors over 65 visiting on weekdays, visitors with disabilities and their companions, as well as volunteer honor card holders. Fees for other attractions, such as the Botanical Garden and Space Theater, will remain unchanged.
The museum explained that the price changes reflect rising operational costs. It noted that ticket prices have remained stable for nearly 40 years. Additionally, new rental fees and charges for using the earthquake simulator at the 921 Earthquake Education Park will take effect in July.
Museum Director Huang Wen-shan said the facility recently underwent renovations, including updates to exhibits and improvements to the air conditioning system that began last year. Huang added that the new prices are necessary to keep the museum financially sustainable while continuing to provide a quality experience for visitors.
