The 2025 college football season kicks off with one of the most anticipated matchups of the year: Miami vs. Notre Dame.
The Hurricanes will host the Fighting Irish on Sunday, August 31, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
This marks Miami’s first Sunday opener since 2018, when the team faced LSU in Arlington, Texas, at the now-defunct Advocare Classic. That game featured future NFL stars like Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Justin Jefferson.
Notre Dame enters the 2025 season with momentum. The Irish went 14-2 last year, falling just short of a national title after a hard-fought loss to Ohio State in the championship game. Historically, Notre Dame leads the all-time series against Miami 18-8-1. The Irish have also won seven of their last eight season openers.
Miami does have some home-field history on its side. The Hurricanes have hosted Notre Dame in Florida 14 times, winning seven and tying once. However, Notre Dame is 1-2 all-time at Hard Rock Stadium. Their lone win there came in the 2025 College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Orange Bowl, where they edged out Penn State 27-24. Miami’s last game against the Irish at Hard Rock was a dominant win back in November 2017.
This high-stakes showdown on Labor Day weekend could have playoff implications. Both teams are eyeing a run at the national championship, making every game critical from the start. Fans can expect an electric atmosphere as two historic programs collide.
