LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 2025) — In a groundbreaking move for the film industry, Lionsgate has announced a partnership with TikTok Shop that will allow U.S. users to purchase movie tickets for the upcoming action film Ballerina directly through the social media app.
The studio claims this marks the first time in the United States that physical movie tickets can be bought via TikTok Shop.
The feature will be introduced during a livestream of Ballerina’s world premiere in the UK, ahead of the film’s official U.S. release on June 6.
Starring Ana de Armas, Ballerina is a spin-off of the popular John Wick franchise. The story is set during the timeline of John Wick: Chapter 3 and features a production team that includes director Len Wiseman, screenwriter Shay Hatten, and producers Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski. The film is a collaboration between Thunder Road Films and 87Eleven Productions.
Dani Otero, Executive Vice President of Paid Media at Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, emphasized the studio’s focus on innovation in audience engagement. “We’re always looking for new ways to engage with moviegoers, and today’s audiences are on TikTok,” Otero said. “This integration allows us to meet fans where they are and bring them closer to the movies they love in ways they’ve never experienced before.”
Reia Davidson, Vertical Director of Media and Entertainment at TikTok, echoed that sentiment, highlighting the platform’s growing role in movie discovery. “TikTok is home to a dynamic community of moviegoers and film enthusiasts who discover and engage with new titles and cultural moments,” she said. “Lionsgate’s launch on TikTok Shop enables fans to experience the premiere of Ballerina in an interactive, shoppable moment, exclusively on TikTok, bringing in-app buzz to theaters.”
The collaboration represents a new kind of digital promotion for theatrical releases, aiming to turn social media engagement into direct box office action.
