Three Football NSW teams—APIA Leichhardt FC, Northern Tigers, and Sydney United 58—have earned their places in the 2025 Hahn Australia Cup Round of 32 after winning their Round 7 Preliminary matches on Wednesday evening.
At North Turramurra Recreation Area, Northern Tigers made club history by qualifying for their first-ever Australia Cup Round of 32. The League One Men’s side dominated Hills United 4-1, with Lachlan Lloyd starring by scoring a memorable hat-trick. Jesse Spang also scored for the Tigers, while Yuki Kanai netted a consolation goal for Hills United.
Meanwhile, at Sydney United Sports Centre, Sydney United 58 faced a tough challenge from League Two Men’s Granville Rage. Despite the pressure, the NPL Men’s NSW Cup giants held on for a narrow 1-0 win. Mason Wells, who came on as a substitute, scored the only goal of the match. The victory marked Sydney United 58’s eighth appearance in the Round of 32—more than any other NPL side in Australia.
The Derby d’Italia at Lambert Park saw APIA Leichhardt FC edge out the 2024 champions and current NPL Men’s NSW leaders Marconi Stallions in a thrilling 3-2 contest. Seiya Kambayashi opened the scoring for APIA in the 32nd minute, followed by a goal from Jordan Segreto just before halftime. Marconi’s Franco Maya pulled one back early in the second half, but Segreto quickly restored APIA’s two-goal lead. James Bayliss scored a late goal in the 91st minute for Marconi, but APIA held on to claim their sixth Australia Cup Round of 32 appearance.
One final Round of 32 spot remains up for grabs next Wednesday at Landen Stadium. League One Men’s team SD Raiders will face off against NPL Men’s NSW powerhouse Blacktown City, following their Round 6 win over Rockdale Ilinden.
