SONORA, TX — The Sonora Broncos and Goldthwaite Eagles earned their spots in the 7-on-7 football state tournament this past weekend.
At the Sonora qualifying tournament, two state tournament berths were available, making the competition intense. After pool play, Sonora faced Junction in one final qualifier, and Goldthwaite took on Eldorado in the other.
Sonora narrowly defeated Junction 22-20, while Goldthwaite edged Eldorado 25-20.
With these wins, Sonora and Goldthwaite join Brady and Iraan as the regional representatives heading to the state tournament.
This marks Sonora’s fifth trip to the state tournament, all since 2018, and Goldthwaite’s second appearance.
Additional qualifying tournaments will take place in the coming weeks, giving more local teams a chance to qualify.
The state tournament is scheduled for June 26-28 in College Station at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex.
