SUPERMAN Breaks Pre-Sale Records, Sparks Major Box Office Momentum Ahead of Release.
James Gunn’s highly anticipated SUPERMAN is already proving to be a box office powerhouse weeks ahead of its theatrical debut. According to industry sources cited by The Wrap, the film has crossed $10 million in pre-sale tickets—eclipsing THE BATMAN, which reached $7.5 million in pre-sales at the same point in its release cycle.
THE BATMAN eventually hit $12.5 million in total pre-sales. By comparison, early projections indicate SUPERMAN could land between $17 million and $19 million in pre-sale ticket revenue before its official release. Warner Bros. expects ticket sales to spike even further, especially with the launch of the global promotional tour that recently kicked off in the Philippines.
Box office tracking paints an even more optimistic picture. While Deadline projects the film will open with $95–125 million, other major analysts, including PRG and The Hollywood Reporter, suggest an opening above $135 million. If those figures hold, SUPERMAN would mark the biggest debut for a standalone Superman film—topping the $116 million launch of Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL in June 2013.
Importantly, current ticket sales figures do not include Amazon-exclusive screenings, which could push SUPERMAN’s actual pre-sale numbers even higher. With that additional revenue considered, some insiders believe the total could already exceed $13 million. Industry sources also report SUPERMAN is currently outselling CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD by a factor of 2.7, FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS by 1.7, and THE BATMAN by 0.75.
The strong early numbers are a promising sign for the DC cinematic universe. The franchise has faced ups and downs in recent years, but SUPERMAN may signal a turning point, both financially and narratively. Some experts believe this could become the highest-grossing Superman film in history, potentially surpassing the $662 million global total earned by MAN OF STEEL in 2013.
The film follows Clark Kent, a reporter navigating the challenges of reconciling his alien origins with his life on Earth. As Superman, he strives to represent truth, justice, and the human way in a world that increasingly sees those values as outdated.
If pre-release buzz is any indication, SUPERMAN is poised to soar both critically and commercially, reshaping the legacy of one of pop culture’s most iconic heroes.
