David Byrne, the former Talking Heads frontman, is returning to the stage with his first solo album and tour in seven years. The 73-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer revealed plans for the Who Is The Sky? Tour, named after his upcoming album set to release on September 5.
Byrne’s new record features collaborations with notable artists such as St. Vincent, Hayley Williams of Paramore, Tom Skinner of The Smile, Ghost Train Orchestra, and producer Kid Harpoon.
The tour kicks off in mid-September and will cover multiple cities across North America. New York fans will get six opportunities to see Byrne live. The tour begins on September 21 at the Proctors Theatre in Schenectady, followed by stops at Syracuse’s Landmark Theatre on September 23 and Buffalo’s Shea’s Performing Arts Center on September 25.
Byrne will close his New York run with three shows at the iconic Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan on September 30, October 1, and October 10.
Accompanying Byrne will be a 13-member ensemble of musicians, singers, and dancers, some of whom performed with him during the American Utopia tour. Byrne promises a dynamic show where the performers will move throughout the stage.
“I suspected that intimate orchestral arrangements would bring out the emotion I sense is there in these songs,” Byrne said about his new work. “It’s something that folks don’t always hear in my work, but this time for sure I thought it was there.”
Tickets for the Who Is The Sky? Tour go on sale officially on Friday, June 13. Fans can purchase tickets through platforms like Vivid Seats, a secondary market where prices vary based on demand.
