Tickets for the upcoming Newcastle United friendly against Atlético Madrid are nearly sold out. As of 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 15, only 284 tickets remain available. These are located in Level 7, sections L7K and L7L—safe standing areas at the top of the Leazes End, traditionally where away fans are seated.
The final section, L7M, closest to the East Stand, is already sold out and will host Atlético Madrid supporters. Additionally, 68 ‘Premium’ seats priced at £85 each are still available.
The double-header event will take place on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at St James’ Park. The day starts with the Newcastle United women’s team facing Atlético Madrid Femenino at 1 p.m., followed by the men’s teams playing at 4 p.m. One ticket grants access to both matches.
Newcastle United’s decision to move away from the usual weekend double-header format, where the squad would split to face two different opponents, seems to be a smart move. This single home match, scheduled a week before the Premier League season begins, allows manager Eddie Howe to field his full first team against a prestigious opponent, likely in front of a packed stadium.
St James’ Park will host the third edition of the Sela Cup, featuring both Atlético Madrid’s men’s and women’s teams. Tickets start at just £25, providing fans a chance to see two of Europe’s respected clubs in one day.
The women’s match features Becky Langley’s Newcastle side against Atlético Madrid Femenino, who finished third in Liga F last season behind Barcelona and Real Madrid and reached the Copa de la Reina final.
Sela, Newcastle United’s primary front-of-shirt partner, has been instrumental in making the Sela Cup possible. Ibrahim Mohtaseb, Head of International Business at Sela, said: “We’re excited to welcome one of Europe’s biggest teams to St James’ Park this summer.
With Newcastle United’s return to the Champions League, this will be a challenging test for both teams and a great show for fans. Now in our third year partnering with Newcastle United, we’re proud that the Sela Cup continues to offer a spectacular matchday experience.”
Fans are encouraged to secure tickets soon before this highly anticipated event sells out completely.
